Admittedly, I got a little carried away with French wines this fall, but we have covered a lot of ground and tasted a large number of wines that most would never get to experience. I hope that it has been a terrific experience for you!
And while we have had two exceptional presenters for the other classes, I have to admit that Cameron has presented classes for me for a very long time and truly earned the Cellarmaster’s nickname of the Professor for his knowledge and presentation style. I’m sure you’ll agree after his next presentation.

Robert Monuit Blanc de Blancs NV France (Champagne)
“Champagne Robert Moncuit in Mesnil sur Oger (Côte des Blancs; the domaine exists since 1889) cultivates 25 plots adding up to eight hectares of Chardonnay, mostly 50+ year old vines on chalky soils. Moncuit works the soil but is not an organic wine producer. The vins clairs were fermented in stainless steel and kept on the lees for ten months, so the bottling is usually in July. Only the Reserve is partly fermented in oak (20%). The domaine has existed since 1889. Moncuits aims for fresh Champagnes that are not dominated by the fruit, but the chalky terroir of Mesnil. Indeed the wines have a great purity and finesse, but a good complexity too.” Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate

Anne-Sophie Dubois Fleurie L’Alchimiste 2016 France (Fleurie, Burgundy)
“L’Alchimiste” is named after the Paulo Coelho novel, a book about pursuing one’s dreams and learning life lessons along the way. 100% destemmed, L’Alchimiste is a selection of vines over forty years of age. It is aged for around 15 months in a combination of cement and a range of different sized neutral oak barrels. Anne-Sophie bottles her wines unfined and unfiltered.
“This is Dubois flagship wine, from a southwest-facing section of Fleurie on mostly granite soils. The wine is clearly a product of a Burgundy-style vinification (as opposed to carbonic maceration) but seems to channel the soul of Fleurie with dark and red fruits, floral notes and pretty spice flavors. Delicious.”

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Côtes-du-Rhône 2015 France (Saint-Joseph, Rhône Valley)

“Jean-Louis makes these négociant wines to showcase what he believes to be the potential that these appellations can achieve with which he works. The Côtes du Rhône ‘Mon Coeur’ is a blend of four distinct terroir located in and around Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Though the blend varies year to year, it is roughly 50% Syrah and 50% Grenache. Vine age is between 20-60 years.” ~ Winery
“Lurid ruby. Ripe cherries and red berry liqueur on the deeply perfumed, spice-tinged nose. Shows impressive power and breadth on the palate, offering rich black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors complicated by hints of lavender and peppery spices. The smooth, gently tannic finish delivers solid punch and repeating red berry and floral notes.” V

Sweet, spicy and penetrating on the palate, offering juicy blueberry and cherry cola flavors underscored by a peppery quality that adds back-end spiciness and cut.
